EVANSVILLE BUSINESS COMMUNITY CELEBRATES VOLUNTEERISM
The Jefferson Awards recognize individuals who perform outstanding community and public service. The national program was established in 1972 by American Institute for Public Service founders Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, U.S. Sen. Robert Taft Jr. and Sam Beard.
What is most important to Evansville and the Tri-State is that in the last five years, five residents have won the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Award - no other city or state has come close to this record. The winners are Bridget McDaniel, Billy Boling, Paul Kirby Holly Dunn Pendleton and Kathryn Martin.
This group was honored locally with a cocktail reception at the Evansville Courier & Press. Lynn Miller-Pease of Leadership Evansville and Jack Pate of the Courier & Press hosted the event, along with Jonathan Peters and Greg Moore from Washington, D.C. Peters and Moore represented the National Jefferson Awards Committee.
Among the many guests were Tiffany and Brian Ball, Lu Porter, Rebecca Alcorn, former Courier & Press editor J. Bruce Baumann, Darrell Ragland, Connie Clemmons, Marilyn Sadler, Estella Moss, Bob Dillow, Mark Samila, Kathryn Schymik, Jeff Whiteside, Mark Miller, LaShone Gibson, Robiaun Charles, Kathy Schoettlin and Ann Whitty.
